"Yura Yura" is a Japanese word describing a slow, gentle swaying or drifting motion-like a flower petal floating and bobbing on the water's surface. Since coming to Hawaii, I have fallen in love with banyan trees; the colorful object on the right side of this painting represents a banyan tree from another planet, depicted as if it were drifting gently in the water Surrounding the tree, fish and aquatic plants float and swat, simply existing just as they are. "Sometimes in life, you just float." Through this imagery, perhaps it is a wonderful thing for us, too, to simply drift through life now and then.
